Goleta, CA, January 10, 2002 --Teva today announced that it signed a three-year agreement as the title sponsor and official footwear sponsor of the U.S. Mountain Running Team. The team is now known officially as the Teva U.S. Mountain Running Team effective January 1,2002.
This year, a twenty-member squad of open and junior athletes who are members of USATF (U.S. Track and Field) will be selected for the Teva U.S. Mountain Running Team. Members of the team will be chosen using the following criteria: results at selection races, world mountain running trophy events and national and international racing experience including mountain, road, cross country and track.
"Teva is very proud to support this elite team," said Adam Druckman, Teva's sports marketing manager. "Sponsoring the U.S. Mountain Running Team is a natural for us and an extension of our existing support programs for outdoor athletes. The Teva U.S. Mountain Running Team represents our commitment to the performance outdoor athlete. "
Teva will introduce a new line of trail running shoes in April 2002 featuring proprietary technologies, maximum stability, comfort and fit. All of the shoes in the line -- the Elden Trail, Norman and Norma -- have all been built to perform at the highest levels. "We hope to carry our tradition of vision and innovation into the running market and are excited to have some of the best athletes in the country wearing our shoes," said Druckman.
Bill Roe, president of USATF, added "My thanks to Teva for their willingness to enter into this agreement with our mountain running team. With the World Mountain Trophy events coming to Alaska in 2003, this will be a big step forward in making our USA teams more competitive."
