Race Course

This race starts promptly at 8 a.m. in Ashcroft (approx. 9 miles outside of the town of Aspen) on Castle Creek Road, elevation 2,960 meters. The course starts on dirt/gravel road and follows trail through forests toward Taylor Peak at 4095 meters. Runners will descend Taylor Pass and Express Creek before finishing on Express Creek Road. The finish line is located approximately 2 miles from the start line. The course is marked with ecological paper flagging and it is advisable to inspect the course prior to race day. Runners MUST stay on course or face disqualification. This is a high altitude endurance event and is extremely strenuous. Course records for the 14.4 mile event held in ‘99 are 1:56:48 for men and 2:16:20 for women with average times hovering around 2:45. Add at least 20 minutes to these times to estimate finish time for this year’s event. There will be cutoff times on course.

Support Stations

There will be five support stations located along the course. Each will have trained medical personnel and support staff with radios. Support stations will be located at start, near Taylor Pass (4 miles), just below Taylor Pass (6 and 7 miles - you hit this one twice) and on Express Creek Road (10 miles) and the finish line. Be prepared that if you suffer an injury, evacuation may not be timely due to the nature of the course. Although there will be water at all aid stations and energy products at several of the aid stations, you are advised to carry your own supplies with you. Whatever you pack in you MUST either pack out or leave at an aid station. DO NOT LEAVE TRASH or other items along the course. At the finish line, runners will receive refreshments.

Entry Fees

Entry fee is $30 if paid by May 15, 2001. From May 16-June 15 the fee is $35, and from June 16 to race day the fee is $40 (space available).
