Directions: From 15-501, Take Hillsborough Road to Cole Mill Road, then
follow Cole Mill all the way until it dead ends at Eno River SP. Follow
the park drive all the way to the parking lot, the trailhead is at the lot.
Trail Information: One loop around the entire Cox Mt. trail is about 3.75
miles, I like to do two times the looped portion (which includes the steepest
parts) plus one loop of the Fanny's Ford trail, which gives me about a 7+ mile
run with some nice relatively steep and technical parts. The climb on Cox
Mt. is from about...say 250' at the river to nearly 700' at the summit, so for
the eastern Piedmont, it's comparatively rugged - probably the best climb I know
of in the Triangle area. The riverside portions include some heavily
rooted/rutted single track, but there are long swaths of fire road as well, so
there's a nice mix of terrain. There are several other trails in Eno River
SP that look like they warrant exploration.
