Closest City to trailhead = Yonkers to Croton
Directions: (Southern Start) From Saw Mill Parkway, exit at Yonkers Ave.,
east to Midland Ave, south to Mclean Ave and find street parking. Easier access and
parking just north in Tibbetts Park. Southern boundary begins at border of Van Cortlant
Park/Yonkers City line; enter trail just west of McClean and Sherman Ave and walk south a
few hundered yards.
(Northern Start) NY Rte 9 to Rte 129 east -OR- Taconic Parkway to Underhill Ave south
to Rte 129 West; park at Croton Dam Plaza park and climb hill to top of Dam to find
northern trailhead.
Trail Information: 26 Mile trail mostly above historic Croton
Aqueduct which connects Croton Resevoir with NYC. Mostly flat, but descends gently,
on average, if starting from the north. You will share the trail with walkers and
reasonably courteous bikers, but generally uncongested.
Most southern portion in Yonkers is very difficult to follow between Tibbetts Park and
Glenwood Ave., Yonkers, and roads must substitute to stay near the Acqueduct itself.
Ossining section can be equally confusing with some dismal detours. Do not attempt
without careful map study.
There are many extremely scenic sections with unforgettable views of the Palisades
(Greystone-Yonkers north to Tarrytown) and historic areas in Washington Irving country
(Irvington north to Sleepy Hollow). For runs of 10 miles or less, recommend parking
adjacent to trail in downtown Hastings-on-Hudson (Reynolds Field), Dobbs Ferry (Mercy
College), Irvington (Main St.) or Tarrytown (High School).
Miscellaneous: Trail has few water locations, money for refreshments or
carry your own is reccommended.
-Maps and info available at Headquarters station located at trail intersection with Walnut
St. in Dobbs Ferry
-Trail links with southern boundary of Rockefeller State Park, a meticulously groomed,
challenging and scenic network of trails (bikes forbidden).
