Directions: 30 minutes south of Houston on I-45 & 15 miles
north of Galveston Island. Exit I45 at exit 15 at Gulf Greyhound Park onto
FM2004 three miles south toward Hitchcock. Park entrance is directly across street
from Northside Elem. School.
Go to first stop sign past sports complex and turn left to Veterans Pavilion and park in
parking area. Trail head is 100 ft. directly west toward Highland Bayou.
Trail Information: 6 miles of hard clay, roots, stumps and small very
steep hills. Most runners use 3 mile loop to the north of the bayou which will be to your
right if you face the bayou and use their cars as aid stations between loops. Very hard to
get lost. Each side trail takes you back to the main trail or road.
Miscellaneous Information: Do not run if it has rained during the
past few days. Clay will be too slippery and will suck your shoes off your feet.
Besides you won't be able to climb the slippery steep hills. Be sure to always bring
mosquito repellent as they will somtimes be very pesky. Great little hills for
training. Be sure to watch out for bikers as they will be on you before you know it.
Restrooms and water at Pavilion, but no showers. If weather turns bad you can
come to Galveston Island and run the 13 mile long seawall and take in the sights.
