Directions: Exit I-15 at Via Rancho Parkway (Wild Animal
Park exit) and proceed west to Lake Dr (approx. 2.5m). Turn left on Lake Dr
winding down a curvy road with live oak trees. Parking lot on left about half
mile.
Trail Information: Head east on a trail alongside the road for
almost a mile until another parking lot. Another trailhead at east side of
parking lot. This is a jeep trail for about 2.5 miles with one slight hill to
sign "Bernardo Summit Trail". The summit (el 1,100') is another two miles on
single track and can get somewhat steep. Total out and back approx. 9 miles.
Miscellaneous Information: On a clear day (most every day) from
the summit you can see the Pacific Ocean over Rancho Sante Fe, south to Mexico,
north the snow capped mountains in San Bernadino. Beware of rattlesnakes during
the spring and early summer.
