Directions: I-15 to Fallbrook/Mission Rd. Exit. Follow signs
for Fallbrook till you get to Mission Rd. Turn on to Mission Rd. in the
direction of Fallbrook. Once you get into town, turn right on Pico Rd.
which will then turn into De Luz rd. Turn right on Sandia Creek Rd. and follow
till you see a bridge-like thing ahead of you and there will be parking and a
trailhead on your right.
Trail Information: The 5.7 mile run is mostly a bobcat-cleared
equestrian trail that has numerous steep hills and some rocky areas to scamper
over. At about the halfway point you'll encounter a stream crossing where you
will have to take your shoes and socks off and wade (usually thigh deep) to get
to the north shore on the homeward bound leg of the run. The south shore is
mostly shaded and the north shore has more exposed areas. You can either
cross the stream again near the trailhead or meet up with Rock Mountain Rd. and
cross the stream at the bridge and get back to the trailhead.
Miscellaneous Information: Notable wildlife encountered: Snakes
and coyotes. Damage due to the 2007 wildfires is very
noticeable after 1.5 miles.
