Directions: Start at the Hulls Gulch trailhead just north of town (follow
8th street until it becomes a dirt road, then its just a 1/2 mile or so. Parking on
right side of road.)
Trail Information: So named for the hellish temperatures in Hulls Gulch
during the summer months, the Valley of the Shadow of Death takes you up Hulls Gulch to a
fork in the trail (2 mi?). Cross the creek and follow the flat trail (finally) to
the right. About 200 yards down the trail is another trail heading off to the left
and up the side of another hill. Follow this to the top, emerging onto the spine of
an exposed and mercifully breezy ridge. Run down the ridge, enjoying beautiful views
of the Boise Valley and Owyhee Mtns. Eventually you will drop out onto a trail named
"The Freeway" (no signs). Hang a left and follow for approx. 3/4 mile until
another fork heads off to the right. Take this fork back to the Hulls Gulch trail
system and your vehicle. Total distance approx. 6 miles (?).
Miscellaneous Information: More fun in the morning. Take a Gu and
water bottle.
