Directions: Chicago: East River Rd south of Higgins, Cook County Forest Preserve
entrance at base of overpass.
Northbrook/Wheeling: Dundee Rd. east of Milwaukee Ave., Forest Preserve entrances on both

Trail Information: This trail follows the Des Plaines River (on its eastern bank)
and goes from Irving Park Rd. in Chicago, north as far as perhaps the Wisconsin border.
There are a few spots where streets must be negotiated.
Miscellaneous Information: Many parts of this trail are beautiful all year. There
is a lot of wildlife here; marmots, muskrats, deer, coyote, tons of migratory birds like
indigo buntings, redstarts, orioles, scarlet tanagers, and of course cardinals, great blue
herons, cedar waxwings, goldfinches, Canada geese, mallards, skunks, squirrels, chipmunks,
and a huge variety of dragonflies in summer!
