The ultimate trail running experience. The SHT runs about 250 miles from Duluth to the
Canadian border, along Lake Superior. The hiking trail runs through very rugged, often
wilderness, territory with LOTS of ups and downs, some very steep. The trails tends to
alternate ups and downs from river valleys with waterfalls and rapids to cliffs and
overlooks that provide breathtaking views of Lake Superior and the Northern Minnesota
wilderness. Wildlife abound. Access to the trail is convenient at numerous locations along
Hwy 61. Trail heads are placed about every 7 to 10 miles. The Superior Hiking Trail 50 and
100 mile ultramarathons are held every September.
