Directions: From E. Main St. downtown, turn left on Rouse Ave. and
continue until it turns into Bridger Dr/Hwy. 86. Drive 14 miles northeast
and turn right at the trailhead for Bangtail Divide. Trail begins after
small footbridge crossing. Grassy Mountain can also be accessed from the
gravel road on the right side of Hwy. 86 about 1/2 mile prior to Bangtail but
it's about a four-mile uphill climb on the gravel road to the meadow crossing,
after which you get to the single-track. Then it's downhill all the way,
seven miles or so back to the Bangtail trailhead.
Trail Information: Well-maintained single-track switchbacks climbing up
through the Bangtails. Trail winds up through thick forest and overlooks
beautiful meadows blazing with alpine wildflowers -- run up far enough and
you're rewarded with amazing views of the Bridgers. One of the best trails
in Bozeman.
Miscellaneous Information: Wildly popular mountain-biking trail -- but
wear a bear bell if you're running by yourself or you're running late in the
day.
