Directions: From Asheville, take the Blue Ridge Parkway from its
intersection with the French Broad river south about 27 miles to the entrance to
Shining Rock Wilderness Area. The trailhead is about a half mile off the parkway
crossing the SRWA road. The trail continues north along ridgelines to the summit
of Cold Mountain....enjoy the view and then return along the same trail (~25
miles round trip)....very rewarding.
Trail Information: This is a wilderness area and at some elevation,
about 5000+ feet for most of it, (relatively high for the East coast...you folks
from Colorado can quit snickering) ...single-track, rocky and hilly with no
water and not many people...just perfect.
Miscellaneous Information: Stop in Asheville at Black Dome Mt. Shop for
trail directions and any forgotten gear.
