Directions: Taconic or Saw Mill River Parkway to 117 west -OR- NY 9
to 117 east to Rockefeller State Park Preserve entrance. Nominal fee required during
main hours. Many alternate access areas along the shoulder of Sleepy Hollow Rd.
north of Bedford Rd in Sleepy Hollow.
Trail Information: Maps and facilities at Park entrance. One of the
finest areas to run in the US. Trails are wide, even, and meticulously groomed with
easy footing, but challenging terrain. Seemingly endless network of trails which
includes Private Property beyond park borders, where courteous runners are welcome.
Within park preserve, trails are well-marked, measured on park maps, and to the
delight of some, given cute names. Trails range from shady climbs, rolling meadows
with Hudson views, and Rockefeller cattle farms adjacent to historic Kykuit estate in
Pocantico Hills. Share the trails with serious runners from NYC and Westchester in
early mornings or unusually large deer population in the evening.
Miscellaneous: Don't be surprised if the patrician locals on horseback
ask you to walk to the side as they approach. Although carriage rides were the
orignal intent of these unbelieveable trails, many of the horsey people are not so local
from the looks of all the trailers in the parking lot.
-Water only at park entrance
-Trail connects with Croton Aqueduct Trail
-Trails are about 1.5 miles from Phillips Manor Metro-North station, if you know where
you're going.
