Directions: Driving on Rt 60, west of Amherst, Va., to the picnic
area at the intersection of the AT and Rt 60. Park there at the picnic
area, and run downhill heading south towards the Lynchburg Dam (6 miles).
Trail Information: This trail features history (AT), beauty (stream most
of the way), hills, ankle twisting running (tree roots, rocks), animals (bears,
deer), and a few hikers. The trail is narrow in most spots, but an
incredible amount of fun. Running to the Lynchburg Dam is a good
turnaround spot. Four miles north from the direction originally started is
a shelter, as well as a shelter about 6 miles farther south if you want to
continue running.
